Wieliczka Salt Mine

Step beneath the surface of southern Poland and discover the surreal beauty of the Wieliczka Salt Mine. A UNESCO World Heritage site carved entirely from rock salt. Dating back to the 13th century, this underground labyrinth stretches over 300 kilometers and plunges to depths of 327 meters, revealing chapels, sculptures, chandeliers, and even subterranean lakes—all sculpted from salt.

Photographing here is like entering a dreamscape: the dim, ethereal lighting dances across crystalline walls, while intricate carvings tell stories of miners, saints, and centuries of craftsmanship. The Chapel of St. Kinga, with its salt-crystal chandeliers and bas-relief of The Last Supper, is a breathtaking centerpiece. Every corridor offers a new texture, a new mood, and a new challenge for light and composition.
While private photography is allowed, professional shoots may require advance permission—especially if you’re using tripods or lighting setups.
